AP's industry department approved more than ₹30,500 crore in investments, creating nearly 30,000 jobs.

Key points

The Andhra Pradesh government’s Department of Industries and Investment has given internal clearance to a batch of proposals worth roughly ₹30,515 crore. The green signal, issued by a senior‑level committee, covers projects from domestic and foreign firms across electronics, automobile and renewable‑energy sectors. Officials said the approval marks the largest single‑handed investment commitment in the state’s industrial history.

The decision follows the state’s 2023‑24 industrial policy, which offered tax incentives, land‑allocation shortcuts and a single‑window clearance system to attract capital. Over the past two years, Andhra Pradesh has secured about ₹12,000 crore in foreign direct investment, but the current package more than doubles that figure. Policy analysts note that the aggressive push aligns with the state’s ambition to become a manufacturing hub in South India.

Collectively, the projects are expected to generate 29,677 direct jobs, according to the department’s impact assessment. About 60 % of the positions will be in the electronics and automotive value chains, while the remaining 40 % will stem from green‑energy installations such as solar panel factories and battery assembly units. The employment forecast also includes ancillary roles in logistics, services and skill‑training centres.

With youth unemployment in Andhra Pradesh hovering around 12 % and more than 30,000 job‑seekers currently idle, the investment surge could provide a significant labour market stimulus. State labour officials anticipate that the new jobs will absorb a large share of the educated but under‑employed youth, reducing migration to other states. Economists caution, however, that the quality of jobs and the speed of skill‑matching will determine the long‑term impact.

While the investment inflow is welcomed, experts highlight the need for parallel upgrades in power supply, transportation networks and water resources to sustain the mega‑projects. The state has already earmarked ₹1,200 crore for infrastructure upgrades in the next fiscal year. If execution matches the announced commitments, Andhra Pradesh could see a measurable rise in its Gross State Domestic Product and a shift toward a more diversified industrial base.
